- Summary: machine locks up intermittently
-
- Hi.
-
- I've been having problems with my A2091 SCSI card ever since I upgraded
- to AmigaOS 3.1.
-
- A year ago I upgraded my A2000 with a GVP 030/33Mhz w/8meg. I used
- this card under AmigaDOS 1.3 for nearly 2 months without any problems.
-
- In an attempt to run Linux 68k, I upgraded the system to AmigaOS 3.1.
- The upgrade went smoothly, and at least initially, I didn't notice
- any problems with system performance. Over the next few months, I started
- having problems with the drive studdering (drive accesses stop, the drive
- making all kinds of noise, as if seeking the zero track or something).
- After a few seconds, to on some occasions a few minutes, the drive
- returns to normal. Figuring the drive was the problem, I purchased and
- added a new 1 Gig drive.
-
- The new drive worked fine, initially. I was able to transfer data off
- the old drive onto the new drive without problems. Only when I started
- to use the new drive extensively that the next problem cropped up.
-
- The machine now locks up intermittently, with a solid drive light. The lockup
- isn't complete, i.e. doesn't crash the machine, but, if you access the drive
- at all, control is effectively lost (no response to mouse clicks, although
- mouse movement is still there). When the system hangs, the filesystem
- often generates checksum problems that are only fixable with fixdisk.
- These hangs are often enough that the machine is effectively unusable.
-
- The new drive is installed with its terminators turned on (although I could
- verify this).
-
- Could someone give me an idea of whether there exists a compatibility
- problem with older A2091 cards and AmigaOS 3.1?
-
- The A2091 card has the following info on it:
-
- WD33C03A-PL
- 00-04 9048
- 040661 2001 02
- Proto
-
- ROMS: V6.6
-
- A friend suggested trying later ROMS, but I've also heard that certain
- Western Digital chips can give problems.
-
- Any help would be appreciated... Email responses are preferred.
