  13. I've been having problems with my A2091 SCSI card ever since I upgraded
  14. to AmigaOS 3.1.
  15.  
  16. A year ago I upgraded my A2000 with a GVP 030/33Mhz w/8meg.  I used
  17. this card under AmigaDOS 1.3 for nearly 2 months without any problems.

  19. In an attempt to run Linux 68k, I upgraded the system to AmigaOS 3.1.
  20. The upgrade went smoothly, and at least initially, I didn't notice 
  21. any problems with system performance.  Over the next few months, I started
  22. having problems with the drive studdering (drive accesses stop, the drive
  23. making all kinds of noise, as if seeking the zero track or something).
  24. After a few seconds, to on some occasions a few minutes, the drive 
  25. returns to normal.  Figuring the drive was the problem, I purchased and 
  26. added a new 1 Gig drive.

  28. The new drive worked fine, initially.  I was able to transfer data off
  29. the old drive onto the new drive without problems.  Only when I started
  30. to use the new drive extensively that the next problem cropped up.

  32. The machine now locks up intermittently, with a solid drive light.  The lockup
  33. isn't complete, i.e. doesn't crash the machine, but, if you access the drive
  34. at all, control is effectively lost (no response to mouse clicks, although
  35. mouse movement is still there).  When the system hangs, the filesystem
  36. often generates checksum problems that are only fixable with fixdisk.
  37. These hangs are often enough that the machine is effectively unusable.

  39. The new drive is installed with its terminators turned on (although I could
  40. verify this).

  42. Could someone give me an idea of whether there exists a compatibility
  43. problem with older A2091 cards and AmigaOS 3.1?

  54. A friend suggested trying later ROMS, but I've also heard that certain
  55. Western Digital chips can give problems.
